Former home of the ducal castle guardian, now a local history centre and town museum. Until 1809, only accessible via a bridge over the outer moat. The older part at the rear, made of tuff, formed the outer castle tower and once had four storeys. It dates back to the fortifications that Duke Ludwig the Bearded had built between 1428 and 1436.
Once home to the guards of the ducal palace, this castle gate now houses Schärding's local museum. Until 1809, it was accessible only via a bridge across the outer moat. The older part of the building at the rear was originally four storeys high. Made of tuff, it was once the outermost tower of the fortress built for Duke Ludwig the Bearded between 1428 and 1436.The castle gate can be visited daily.
