The Waldhausen Advent invites you to discover traditional crafts, pre-Christmas music, and regional delicacies amid the historic abbey setting, and to enjoy the contemplative Advent season with all your senses.
“Art and Indulgence” in the Mühlviertel During Advent
Under this motto, the Waldhausen Advent will take place on December 5, 6, and 8, 2026.
In the distinctive atmosphere of Waldhausen Abbey, you can watch nearly forgotten crafts—such as Austria’s last traditional beekeeper, woodturners, glassblowers, ceramic painters, carpet weavers, and a demonstration blacksmith—at work during their demonstrations, and purchase true works of art. You’re sure to find a Christmas gift or two among the handmade Christmas decorations, soaps, candles, textiles, alpaca products, and much more.
As you stroll through the lovingly decorated market, you’ll be accompanied by the sounds of the tower brass band, and on stage, folk music ensembles will get you in the Advent spirit.
Culinary delights from the Mühlviertel region—such as freshly baked bread, smoked fish, Surbratl, bratwurst, farmer’s doughnuts, Christmas pastries, mulled wine, and punch—are a must-try.
Visit the nativity scene exhibition in the pavilion and walk along a lovingly designed Advent trail to the display nativity scene featuring life-size carved figures and live animals.
Horse-drawn carriage rides and a children’s program make the Advent market a special experience even for the youngest visitors.
Hours: daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
