The Pearl of the Strudengau

The shipping pier Grein is locat ed near the city centre – only a few minutes’ walk until you reach the historic main square, where cafés and restaurants invite you to stay and enjoy what they have to offer.
“The pearl of the Strudengau”, as the city at the Danube is called by the poets, has retained the image of an old maritime town carefully. The historic city theatre Grein is the oldest secular theatre of Austria and thereby undoubtedly a landmark of European importance. Also a visit to the annual "Donaufestwochen im Strudengau" on the Greinburg will definitely be a special experience. A scenic hiking trail (about 7.5 miles) leads to the romantic gorge of the Stillensteinklamm and allows magnificent views of the Danube Valley.
