Grein - The pearl of the Strudengau region
The Grein landing stage is centrally located and only a few minutes' walk from the historic town square, where cozy coffee houses and inns invite you to linger and enjoy a refreshment. The Danube town of Grein, affectionately known as "The Pearl of the Strudengau", has retained the charming image of an old shipping town.
The historic Grein Municipal Theatre is considered the oldest theater in Austria and is a special attraction. Greinburg Castle is worth a visit all year round - not only during the annual "Danube Festival Weeks in Strudengau", but also for a visit to the museum in the castle and the magnificent view of the Danube valley.
For nature lovers, a hike of around 7.5 kilometers offers wonderful impressions: It leads through the romantic Stillensteinklamm gorge and past the Gobelwarte, which beckons with an impressive panorama. A special highlight for hiking enthusiasts is the Strudengauer 9er - a cross-province hiking marathon that leads through a total of nine municipalities around Grein.
Not far from Grein (approx. 6 km away) lies the idyllic Bad Kreuzen, the first hiking village in Upper Austria. Over 100 kilometers of well-marked hiking trails, certified hiking businesses and hiking tours await hikers here, from short walks to challenging tours through the idyllic Strudengau region. Bad Kreuzen is also known for its long Kneipp tradition, which promotes relaxation and health in the midst of nature.
The medieval Clam Castle is also only around 6 kilometers away and offers guided tours that provide an insight into life at the castle over the centuries as well as a varied concert program. The open-air concerts at the castle attract numerous visitors, especially in summer.
