This circular walk actually starts from the market square and then leads to the castle. If you spend the night in the Schatz.Kammer, you can start the hike directly from here.
Firstly, you walk through the Wolfsschlucht gorge with its idyllic waterfalls up to the Speck-Alm. You should definitely take a break here to enjoy a typical snack.
Strengthened, the route continues along the high trail to Grein. The small town is also known as the pearl of the Strudengau region due to its cultural attractions such as Greinburg Castle and the historic town theatre.
After enjoying the culture, you then hike through the Lettental valley and follow the signposted trail to the Aschaumühle mill. From there you return to your starting point, the Schatz.Kammer.

Another hiking tour that we would like to recommend to you is the Bad Kreuzner Herzklopfen Runde. The "Highlight Tour" combines the most beautiful spots in the area into an enjoyable hike with the motto "switch off, experience and enjoy! Another plus point: Kreuzen Castle is recommended as the starting point and therefore directly at your hotel.

A refreshing hiking tip for the summer is the Wolfsschlucht gorge. The nature and culture trail leads through the gorge, which Anton Bruckner once hiked through and which was frequented by aristocrats for summer retreats and relaxation. Information boards along the way tell you more about the bathing facilities of the former Bad Kreuzen cold-water spa and how the spa and Kneipp tradition in Bad Kreuzen came about. If you want to experience this up close, take off your shoes and dive in.

The Bad Kreuzen Kneipp trail starts at the municipal office and leads along the beautiful natural surroundings of the Kempbach stream and is a real treat for body and soul. For those who like to be sporty, there are eight new motor skills stations that invite you to burn off energy with many different exercises.

The Stelzhamer Trail is an absolute highlight for families with children. The starting point is the municipal office in Bad Kreuzen. In addition to the lovingly designed "Zwergerlwald" forest, there are also many animals and creatures to discover, for example at the Archehof Gruber farm. For refreshments in between, we recommend a short detour to the Starzhofer organic farm.

Relaxation for body, mind and soul! Discover Austria's largest Kneipp garden on 19,000 square metres in Bad Kreuzen. A sound garden with a watercourse, a graduation house with brine-rich air for breathing training, a green claustrum, a water treading area with a watering station, a barefoot circular path and a water playground provide the necessary relaxation. The large herb garden with numerous herbs, aromatic and medicinal plants also contributes to holistic relaxation.

Austria's Kneipp Garden can be reached from the Schatz.Kammer Burg Kreuzen in 30 minutes on foot or by e-bike in 10 minutes.
The e-bike first takes you 12 kilometres along the R1.14 Moonstone circuit from the Schatz.Kammer to the Aumühle. After a rest and possible refreshment stop at the Aumühle, you can leave the bike here and start the hike into the Stillensteinklamm gorge. The wild and romantic Stillensteinklamm gorge is one of the most scenic hiking trails in the Danube region.

The Moonstone Tour actually starts in Grein an der Donau. However, as it is a circular route, the Schatz.Kammer is also a suitable starting point. The slogan then just needs to be turned round to "From the Moonstone to the Danube circuit". E-bikers can expect a fantastic summit bike tour to the mystical Mondstein (600 m) and then down into the Strudengau Gorge to Grein - once one of the most dangerous sections of the Danube. Magnificent distant views, short climbs, relaxing terraces ... - pure enjoyment! Cultural highlights: The Kneipp spa town of Bad Kreuzen and the Danube town of Grein.

This tip first takes you 12 km (approx. 1 hour) on the R1.14 Moonstone circuit to Aumühle before joining the R1.15 Three Saddles circuit and immersing yourself in the fascination of the lonely sea of forest hills north of the Strudengau Gorge: eternal mountain forests, cultivated farmland like oases, high hills, deep ditches, magnificent views ... Three saddles to cross boost your ego. In the centre, the historic market town of Waldhausen invites you to take a break. A mountainous cycle tour for connoisseurs!

To reach this tour from the Schatz.Kammer, you first cycle 8.5 km by e-bike to Burg Clam. There you can join the R1.13 Alpine View Circuit - "High-altitude cycling in the Machland plain". The tour then leads through the Natura 2000 area Machland Nord via Mitterkirchen up to the scenic balcony of the Machland plain, the panoramic road Obernstraß (500 m). The long ridge inspires with relaxed pleasure cycling and magnificent views of the Alps, deep views, ... pure king-of-the-world feeling! From the treasure chamber to Clam Castle: approx. 8.5 km (one way)
Highlights:
The former shipping town of Grein is nestled between the Danube and granite. Here, the mighty Danube, steeped in history, merges with the unspoilt, gentle Mühlviertel hills. Inns, patisseries and cafés invite you to linger.
Journey to Grein: The bus stop (Bad Kreuzen Bundesausbildungszentrum) is a 10-minute walk from the Schatz.Kammer. From there, the regional bus 382 goes to Grein.

Greinburg Castle has watched over the town and river for half a millennium. Visitors can look forward to a variety of representative rooms from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
During a tour of the castle, visitors can admire historic ceremonial rooms: the magnificent arcaded courtyard, the imposing Knights' Hall and the castle chapel. The Sala Terrena , lined with Danube pebbles, and the diamond vault with its fascinating interplay of light and shadow are unique.

The historic Grein Municipal Theatre (1791) is the oldest preserved civic theatre in Austria. Many special features can be seen: Original preserved barrier seats; a privy, only separated from the auditorium by a curtain, the Napoleon's box and much more. In the newly designed city museum, you can learn more about the eventful history of the city and the theatre's history from its beginnings to the present day.

Off to the water: Strudengau round trips - with the ship "MS Donaunixe" through the Strudengau region
From Easter to 26 October, the Strudengau round trips on the "MS Donaunixe" take place on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The trip starts in Grein and takes you downstream to the island of Wörth. On the right bank of Wörth Island, which divides the Danube into two one-way streets, you pass the villages of Hößgang and Freyenstein. From Willersbach, the route leads along the left bank of the Danube past the villages of Sarmingstein, St. Nikola and Struden with Werfenstein Castle and the Schusterstein, which is famous from the legend. The route then leads back to Grein.

Bogensportclub Strudengau-Aumühle/Grein The BSC-Strudengau offers experienced archers and beginners two courses with a total of 64 3D targets on a spacious and varied archery course in the Mühlviertel hills.

You can reach the Aumühle and thus the Strudengau-Aumühle/Grein archery club in approx. 12 km by e-bike via the R1.14 Mondstein circuit.
They are, among other things, the oldest farm animals in the world and perfect companions - alpacas. These lovable and curious creatures also feel at home in our latitudes, especially in the Danube region. On guided tours in the Danube region, you can experience these fluffy creatures up close and explore the beautiful places in the region. In Bad Kreuzen, an alpaca hike around the Mondstein offers relaxation and pure nature!
The Mondstein alpacas can be reached via a short detour on the R1.14 Mondstein circuit (approx. 6 km).
