Villages in Machland & Strudengau

The Machland is characterised by extensive alluvial forests which merge into a lower terrace used for farming.

This area represents, the Celtic village in Mitterkirchen, the Collegiate Church Baumgartenberg as well as riparian forests with a habitat for endangered birds, fish and amphibians, as well as for valuable plant species. You will also find the coat of arms of Otto von Mach which was a model for the coat of arms of the province of Upper Austria.

Highlights of the Strudengau area are the castle of Grein and the unique historic theater as well as castle Clam and the beautiful natural environment which contains a habitat for flora.
