Sacred Music: Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: St. Matthew Passion (1769)

Linz Protestant Choir

With Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s *St. Matthew Passion* from 1769, the Evangelische Kantorei, outstanding soloists, and the Concerto Luterano present a compelling and moving musical interpretation of the Passion narrative according to Matthew. Johann Sebastian Bach’s eldest son moved from the Berlin court to Hamburg in 1768. For his first Passion, he combined his father’s chorales and turba choruses with his own arias and recitatives to create a moving complete work.
