Katrin Plavčak: Painting Reality in Surreal Times

Katrin Plavčak's canvases are a hive of colorful activity - but the cheerfulness of the colors and the subject matter only superficially belies the seriousness with which the artist reflects on scientific, social and political issues.

The exhibition deals with life and painting in turbulent times and questions how we view the world between fake news, unstable political conditions and impending crises. For Plavčak, one of the most important keywords is "sabotage".

The show invites us not to simply accept the status quo, but to rebel against it and at the same time not to sabotage ourselves in the midst of the challenges of our time with regard to social media, AI and the climate crisis. Combined with quotes from pop culture, psychoanalysis and art historical references, Plavčak creates exhibition worlds that inspire reflection and visual enjoyment as a cosmos of their own.
