Christmas Market on the Main Square

A true Christmas world opens up around the imposing Christmas tree on Linz's main square. While punch, mulled wine and sausages are simply part of the Advent season, there are also plenty of arts and crafts and regional specialities at the Christmas market on Hauptplatz

Visitors coming from Schmidttorgasse or the Nibelungen Bridge are presented with a unique sight. Embedded in the centuries-old baroque town houses, a true Advent jewel rises up before our eyes. It glitters and glistens in every nook and cranny, beautifully decorated stalls surround the imposing Christmas tree and invite you to linger. The arrangement of the market stalls means that visitors can head for any stall without any crowds or pushing and shoving. The Christmas market on Linz's main square has always been a market for artists and craftspeople. Three painters are among the founding members and are still represented here today. This market offers shoppers a wide range of home-made Christmas tree decorations, pottery and glassware, costume jewellery in the traditional filigree style and Italian glassworks art. Of course, visitors can quench their hunger and thirst with delicious hot drinks, bratwurst sausages and farmer's doughnuts.
