The gentle hills between Dörnbach und Appersberg beckon to go hiking and also to pause and reflect, because interesting views can be enjoyed at every corner: on the one hand into Mühlviertel, but on the other hand also across the Alpine foothills all the way to the Alps with Traunstein and Dachstein. Starting at the parking lot, farming families show on information boards along the hiking trail, which leads straight through fields and meadows, what work they do on their agricultural properties, which crops they grow, which animals they keep and what food is produced from all this. The landscape is also an important habitat for a wide range of plants and animals. At the stations (brewery, grain, egg-egg, from milk to cheese, the life of pigs, from apple to juice, rapeseed, organic, potatoes) visitors can also get active.
Rewarding is a visit to „Maria vom guten Rat“ pilgrimage church with Austria’s unique late Gothic exterior pulpit. Originally, it was a forest chapel of the Lord of Kürnberg. The image „Maria von Guten Rat“ is a reproduction of the miraculous image from the Italian pilgrimage site of Ganazzano. Beautiful village square and playground, food available at Fischer Inn, village cafe, Florianibräu private brewery (open every 1st Saturday/month, guided tours on request), Rohrhuber Cider Tavern (open Friday afternoons) with farm shop, browse also in the many farm shops at Schölli’s organic mushroom manufactory, Passauerhof, Spiessmayr with school on the farm, Roitner with cheese processing and alpaca farm (alpaca walk by prior appointment, Ransmayr organic farm shop, ex-farm sales at additional farmers in the vicinity. Possible extension of the hiking loop with Katzing-circuit.
