The Schaudepot can be viewed via the "Behrens-Band", which is accessible daily from 7 am to 5 pm at the Tabakfabrik Linz. With guided tours it can also be visited from the inside. The Schaudepot offers a look behind the scenes of museum work. With around 550 exhibits, the depot located along the "Behrens ribbon" in the Tabakfabrik Linz provides an exemplary insight into the collections of the museums of the city of Linz.
Exhibits from the arts, crafts, everyday life, handicrafts and industry are presented kaleidoscopically on 360 m² in the Behrens Building, which is significant in terms of architectural history and where cigarettes were still produced until 2009. The large number of objects creates a fascinating attic effect, which above all reflects the serial character of the Nordico Stadtmuseum's cultural and urban history collection of around 120,000 objects. Objects and works of art relating to the tobacco factory set the bracket here. The industrial and contemporary history of the tobacco factory is particularly relevant for the city. In line with the general development of Linz, the cigarette factory was transformed from a central industrial location into a workplace for art, culture, creative industries and digitalisation.
A depot is a memory store that has the myth of the hidden and holds out the prospect of finding treasures. But it is also a place of work that is constantly being expanded and from which, in turn, objects are taken for exhibitions. The depot is thus not only an "altar of the past": its opening has the potential to deal with current developments.
