Turn- u. Sportunion Wesenufer

In 1952, football was played for the first time on the sports field behind the primary school. The stars of that time were Hermann Razesberger, Roman Gruber, Josef Öttl, Edi Laumann, Hermann Wimmer, Max Hitsch, Kurt Köller, Gottfried Grilnberger, Karl Denk, Josef Derschl, Helmut Strasser, Jan Feiken and the still young Hugo Selle. They first had to solve fundamental problems before they could set about founding the sports club. A suitable plot of land had to be found for the construction of a sports ground.
In 1952, a sports field was built on the leased property of Adolf Königseder, innkeeper in Wesenufer, under his own steam.
On 21 Feb. 1953, the Wesenufer sports club was founded under head teacher Dir. Karl Grilnberger, the Wesenufer sports club was founded. They received an annual grant of 500,--/S from the municipality. In the following years, friendly matches were played against neighbouring clubs. Frequent opponents were the Esternberg sports club and the Mühlviertel clubs Hofkirchen and Kollerschlag.
On 30 May 1965, the Wesenufer sports club was registered with the Upper Austrian Football Association. On 26 October 1965, the club was accepted into the Union-Landesverband and changed its name to Turn- und Sportunion Wesenufer. On 14 August 1966, the newly renovated sports facility was opened and the football championship in the 4th class A was started, whereby the 2nd place could be achieved at the first attempt. A wooden barrack served as a changing room and washing facilities.
Regular training was not organised until the second half of the 1960s.
The highlights of the 1965-1975 period were undoubtedly winning the championship title under player-coach Erwin Dielinger in the 3rd class north-west in the 1971/1972 season and the youth championship title in 1971.
The year 1970 brought some changes. On 3 January 1970, the curling section was founded under section manager Jan Feiken. In spring, the cabin and sports field were supplied with electricity for the first time and in the same year, the Union also organised the first IVV hiking day under "chief hiker" Ludwig Haderer, who was also elected section leader of the newly founded hiking section in January 1971. After the weather gods had unfortunately almost exclusively provided rain for the hikers at the well-organised hiking days, the last hiking day was held in 1975.
In 1972, work began on the construction of the main playing field, the so-called Donauufer-Station in Wesenufer.
In 1973, the curling section separated from Union Wesenufer and from then on operated as an independent club under the name ESV Wesenufer.
In 1979, Walter Weissenböck was the first non Wesenufer member to be elected as the new chairman.
In the 1979/1980 season, the reserve team and in 1980/1981 the junior and reserve team won the championship title.
In 1981, Union Wesenufer founded the cross-country skiing section. The section manager Gerhard Strasser and Josef Osterkorn prepared five different cross-country ski trails from 5-17 kilometres in length. In 1989, with increasing problems with the snow situation, the section was finally closed again.
On 1 January 1982, Adolf Steindl, the owner of the car dealership of the same name, was appointed president of the association. He took over the office from his long-time predecessor Dr Ferdinand Gruber from Eferding.
In 1982, the 30th anniversary of the club was celebrated and at the same time, after two years of construction, the new sports centre was opened. The wooden barracks had become obsolete. In 1982/1983, the team was promoted to the 1st division under coach Rudolf Feiken. However, the young and inexperienced team had to return to the 2nd division the following year.
In the following years, the excellent youth work carried out by a whole series of dedicated youth coaches from the club's own ranks made itself felt: 1986 champion of the school team, 1987/1988 champion of the junior team, 1989/1990 champion junior team U12, 1992/1993 champion school and junior team U16, 1993/1994 champion of the junior team, 1995/1996 champion of the junior team, 1991 2nd place in the district cup school team, 1991 2nd place in the district cup junior team. In 1992, the junior team won the Innviertler Cup under the highly successful junior coach and long-time player Günter Razenberger, who unfortunately died in a road accident in 1995.
The year 1992 was also marked by the death of long-time player, official, coach and organiser of countless cultural events, Helmut Kalinke. Kalinke, who won two championships with both the club and the reserve team, was also the founding father of the Christmas bazaar, which still exists today.

With the opening of the new gymnasium in Waldkirchen, Union Wesenufer founded the gymnastics section in 1995. Section leader and pre-tournament organiser Rosi Ettmayer and her ladies and gentlemen in the gymnastics team are largely responsible for the fact that the gym is now practically fully booked from October to March.

The football team's good work with young players also made itself felt in the fighting team, which became champions in 1996/1997 with coach Roland Ploberger and was promoted to the 1st division.

At the same time, the training ground and new floodlights were completed after two years of construction. On 19 August 2000, Hugo Selle was made an honorary captain for his commendable work and commitment.

In 1998, Josef Litzlbauer - one of the Union's "young stars" at the time - made the leap into the professional squad of SV Ried and thus became the first professional footballer with roots in Union Wesenufer. Unfortunately, a serious disc injury prevented him from continuing his professional career.
However, Litzlbauer was a top performer in various regional league teams.

The year 2002 was dominated by the 50th anniversary of the club, the highlight of which was the three-day tent festival and the official handover of the newly designed sports centre with canteen and covered spectator stand. With countless hours of voluntary work and financial support from the Upper Austrian Football Association, Union OÖ. Football Association, the Upper Austrian Football Union and the municipality of Waldkirchen/W., the redesign of the sports centre was completed under the usual careful and competent construction management of section manager Günther Luger, the soul of the football section.

Unfortunately, the team was relegated back to the 2nd division in 2003. In the same year, the long-serving treasurer, Rudolf Haderer, head of the municipal office, passed away at the age of 54. A new board was elected at the annual general meeting in 2005. Engelbert Leitner, Aichberg replaced Anton Gahleitner as chairman.

In the course of the AGM. In 2006, the former chairmen Anton Gahleitner - who served Union Wesenufer as chairman for a total of 19 years - and his predecessor Walter Weissenböck were each named honorary chairman for their services to the youth of the community and the development of the club. As a companion of both chairmen, he has been instrumental in the development of the club for decades, including as youth and goalkeeper coach, secretary and section manager of the football section. Strasser has also been group chairman of the 2nd class West North since 1993 and has represented the region on the board of the Upper Austrian Football Association since 2002. Union Wesenufer is also highly active in cultural matters. Following in the footsteps of Helmut Kalinke, events such as the Christmas bazaar, the sportsmen's ball and summer festivals (Sauerei in der Brauerei, Frühschoppen, Dämmerschoppen, .....) were and are organised under the leadership of Hubert Huber and Peter Humer and with the active help of the entire sports club family. In addition, the helping hands of the association are at work wherever community events need to be supported.

A radical change in the structure of the club is undoubtedly the partnership between the football section and the footballers of Union Engelharts- zell, which began in summer 2007. In future, the two football sections will play together as the Donautal W/E football team. This merger, which does not affect other club activities, serves to secure the long-term ability to play and, above all, the development of young talent.

This association was dissolved. Union Wesenufer is once again an independent union with joint teams in the junior teams.
