Rastplatz Römerturm

Wilhering, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Rest area Römerturm in Wilhering
Local recreation and habitat...
Forests close to cities fulfil important ecological functions, but are also recreational areas for city dwellers. Interestingly, relatively natural forests have been preserved in the Linz area in particular. The city itself can also provide a habitat for many unexpected animals. One particular animal inhabitant is the eagle owl, which has been observed in the Kürnberg Forest and in Linz (Haselgraben). It is rarely seen by hikers as it is nocturnal and sits in its resting place during the day, perfectly camouflaged. It is also known as the forest policeman, which emphasises its importance for an intact biotope. Its prey includes mammals such as hedgehogs, rats, mice and rabbits as well as birds such as pigeons, crows and ducks.

At Kürnberg Castle, a young man once made a great final discovery. Find out more in the Danube legend "Wine turns to gold".
