Day 1 - Individual arrival in Passau
Individual arrival in Passau for your pilgrimage holiday and check-in at the hotel. The episcopal, border and trading city of Passau offers many cultural highlights with its cathedral, numerous monasteries, churches and residences. Hotel example:Hotel Passauer Wolf**** in Passau

Day 2 - From Passau to Kasten/Vichtenstein Hiking stage approx. 25 km, ascent and descent approx. 800 metres, walking time approx. 8 hours
The stage starts in the time-honoured episcopal city of Passau, more precisely in the Pauline monastery Mariahilf in the Inn city on the southern bank of the Inn and follows the well-marked 'Donausteig Süd' to Haibach, where you cross the border into Austria. The route then climbs up to the Maria im Walde chapel and Freinberg (with viewing tower) and later follows the banks of the Danube again as well as the hills and ditches to Vichtenstein with its beautiful castle. Day 3 - From Kasten/Vichtenstein to Engelhartszell Hiking stage approx. 14 km, ascent and descent approx. 600 metres, walking time approx. 5 hours
The day's stage starts below the imposing castle of Vichtenstein and first leads uphill to Haugstein (approx. 500 metres above the Danube). You cross the Upper Austrian Sauwald forest. Via hiking trails, short stretches of road and mainly paths through the forest, the route then descends again to Stadl and from there down to the Danube to Engelhartszell with Engelszell Abbey, located directly on the banks of the Danube. Day 4 - From Engelhartszell to Schlögen Hiking stage approx. 24 km, ascent and descent each approx. 800 metres, walking time approx. 7.5 hours
The stage to Schlögen leaves the banks of the Danube and climbs up the southern flank of the Danube incision to St. Aegidi. Later, the trail leads into the 'Kleines' nature reserve and back down to the banks of the Danube to Wesenufer. After a short stretch along the Danube, the route climbs slightly uphill again to Waldkirchen am Wesen and from there downhill with a view of the famous Donauschlinge from the south-east Hotel example: Hotel Donauschlinge**** in Schlögen

Day 5 - From Schlögen to Pupping/Eferding Hiking stage approx. 23 km, ascent and descent approx. 450 metres, walking time approx. 7 hours
The stage first leads to the famous view of the Schlögener Schlinge and then over the hilly landscape to Haibach ob der Donau and on to Hartkirchen. Here you cross the lower Aschach valley and enter the plain of the Eferding basin. Hotel example: Hotel Pension Dieplinger*** in Brandstatt

Day 6 - From Pupping/Eferding to Wilhering/Ottensheim Hiking stage approx. 24 km, ascent and descent approx. 100 m, walking time approx. 6 hours
After starting at the Shalom Franciscan monastery in Pupping, the stage first leads along the Aschach to the Danube and then to the town of Eferding, the centre of the extensive Danube basin. The route leads through lush vegetable fields back to the Danube and the Cistercian monastery in Wilhering. Hotel example: Hotel Schwarzer Adler*** in Ottensheim

Day 7 - From Wilhering/Ottensheim to Linz Hiking stage approx. 17 km, ascent and descent approx. 700 metres in altitude, walking time approx. 6 hours
Through the beautiful southern Mühlviertel region, you start out with views of Wilhering Abbey and Ottensheim. Before you reach Linz, the Donausteig hiking tour takes you over the Pöstlingberg, Linz's landmark. Downhill you reach the centre of the provincial capital. Hotel example: Hotel Arcotel Nike in Linz

Return to Passau from your pilgrimage holiday on the Benedictine Way by train.
