FFH- and bird reserve Traun-Danube-Alluvial Meadows
With the 664 ha big FFH and bird nature reserve Traun-Donau-Auen it was possible to build an eco-system which is close to nature and which is an important habitat for a wide range of different species.
The Donausteig touches the Traun-Danube-Meadows which is a very important European nature reserve only at its edge.
The reserve is high in biodiversity as well as it is an ecosystem where many different endangered species live. Rare plants, many amphibians, toads and beavers can be found at the waters of the meadows.
The natural history station of Linz is still working on the reserve's development by considering a wide range of different ecological criteria. One of the main aims is to harmonise the demands of local recreation and the goal of the nature conservation.
