Heritage and Museum Association Pragstein Castle Mauthausen:
This museum was founded back in 1932 and is one of the oldest of its kind in Upper Austria.
The highlights of the collection are presented in two rooms on the second floor of the castle. They shed light on the eventful 1000-year history of the old Danube market and its economic development.

Since its modernization in summer 2019, the exhibition in Room 1 has become the starting point for a contemporary examination of the concept of "Heimat" and has thus achieved supra-regional significance.
The second room is dedicated to the economic development of the town:
The Danube as a transportation route, salt as a commodity and the granite deposits had a lasting impact on the history of Mauthausen.
Interesting exhibits and beautiful model replicas (e.g. ship train and ship mill) take visitors back to a bygone era.

Since the modernization in summer 2019, a modern, multilingual audio guide system (DE, EN, IT, CZ, children's track) has supported the transfer of knowledge in both castle museums (local history museum and pharmacy museum), but personal guided tours are also offered for groups.
