On the grounds of the large Scherer millstone quarry, the STEINBRECHERHAUS, built around 1802, has been preserved almost entirely in its original state. In 2006, the “Verein Steinbrecherhaus” acquired the house and carefully restored it. The Steinbrecherhaus opened in 2007 as a millstone museum and a venue for cultural events. Over the course of 2024, the exhibition in the Steinbrecherhaus and the adjacent open-air exhibit were redesigned.
At the Millstone Museum, students learn a great deal about how people began grinding grain and how they perfected this process over the centuries with increasingly sophisticated mills. For information on school group programs, visit: sites.google.com/view/muehlsteinmuseum2/startseite/rätselrallye
