Diver's Christmas in Aschach on the Danube

The traditional Diver's Christmas organised by the Aschach an der Donau volunteer fire brigade is a festive and contemplative event at Christmas time. For more than 50 years, it has been held in the town centre, along the Danube riverbank.

The divers from the neighbouring diving groups and bases swim downstream in the Danube at 6 p.m. with an illuminated Christmas tree until just before the landing stage. There, the illuminated Christmas tree is ceremoniously lowered into the waters of the Danube. In this way, the divers give thanks for an accident-free diving year and remember all those who have lost their lives in the waters of the Danube.
