We can enter the valley on either the left or right side of the stream, along the Kneipp Adventure Trail (across the footbridge at the Waldbad). At the Klaus Bridge, we switch to the left side of the stream (as seen in the direction of the current). Passing a massive rock formation, the “Klausbachdachl,” we continue to the “Waldandacht.” We proceed to the “Höhrtrichter” station (a lovely adventure playground for children by and in the water) and on to the “Bruno Steg.” There, we cross the stream to the right side or continue straight ahead past the Gaiskirche. We pass the “Bruno Quelle” with its Marian chapel (legend of Bruno the squire, who returned from the Crusades with leprosy and was healed at this spring). Diagonally across on the left side of the stream is a massive rock formation, the “Gaiskirche.” The trail continues over the “Schlager Bridge” to the “Schlager Hütte” (a covered rest area with a table and benches). After the uphill section at the “Feen- und Nymphenhain,” the trail branches off to the left over the Jägersteg. Continue straight up the slope to Grabenbauer, then to St. Martiner Straße, which we cross; we then turn left onto the sidewalk and follow the signs. Where the sidewalk ends, we turn right and then left shortly afterward, cross St. Martiner Straße again, and then walk along a meadow path to the forest, continuing straight ahead to the intersection with the Prälatensteig, where we turn right onto it, now the path leads gently downhill; after about 100 meters, keep to the right until the forest ends, then cross the Landshaag–St. Martin country road and follow the signs to the “Faustschlössl.” Here we have a magnificent view of the Danube, toward Aschach, and of the Aschach Danube Power Plant.
Head downhill and along the Danube past the Peterseil fishing farm, through the old town center to the old fire station; cross St. Martiner Straße, then walk a short distance to the left through the “Himmelreich” neighborhood, then we turn left and head uphill through the forest, following the trail markers until we reach the intersection with the Prälatensteig again. There, we turn right and hike along the Sechterberg farm road, past orchards, to Bad Mühllacken. At the fire station, we turn left; in a few minutes, we’ll reach the town square and the Waldbad.
