With its special atmosphere in the park, the Christmas market in Linz's Volksgarten, right next to the main railway station, offers experiences for young and old.
The daily craft demonstrations are particularly popular with children and adults alike: old crafts are brought back to life here, but modern techniques are also on show. Some craftsmen also invite visitors to join in, as does the neighbouring wood experience area. Quizzes test your knowledge, the wooden xylophone elicits a wide variety of sounds from the different species and you can make your own workpiece with the old crank drill.
More machines from the old days can be seen in the old forge. The large hammer, the lathe and much more are set in motion by a water wheel every 15 minutes.
The intervals at the nativity play are a little longer. What is probably Austria's largest wooden nativity scene comes to life every 30 minutes.
When everyone has had enough of watching, it's off to the rides, the fairytale games or one of the inviting food stalls.
