The Collection

The collection is the centrepiece and soul of our museum. The basic idea of the presentation is a chronological sequence, which makes it possible to get to know the most important movements and styles in art history from the 19th century to the present in the original.

We also focus on artists who have a special relationship with Linz and Lentos, such as VALIE EXPORT and Herbert Bayer. Art history is nothing static, on the contrary, the canon is constantly being rewritten and so there are constant reassessments and rediscoveries. In this way, the museum becomes an instrument for experiencing and understanding art history and leads to the temporary exhibitions, which are primarily dedicated to contemporary art. The collection was gradually reorganised in 2018 by museum director Hemma Schmutz and her team.
