Schlögener Donaublick - viewing point and rest spot

Haibach ob der Donau, Oberösterreich, Österreich

The "natural wonder", the Schlögener Schlinge - the perfect prospect for relaxation, peace and enjoyment.

The Danube Valley has an exceptionally beautiful appearance, which is arguably at its most striking here in the Schlögener Schlinge. Here, the power and beauty of nature are on full display. Bodies of water have always been important to people. Thanks to navigation, the Danube has played—and continues to play—an important role. A lesser-known activity in the Danube Valley is winegrowing. Between 1000 and 1300 AD, during the Medieval Warm Period, grapes were cultivated in the gorge valleys and low-lying areas of Upper Austria. Near Inzell, on the left slope of the Danube Valley, there was a small-scale vineyard with walls and stairways connecting the terraces. Today, it is completely overgrown with bushes. In Hilkering, near Aschach, wine is once again being cultivated.

High above, in the heart of the Schlögener Schlinge, stands the so-called Kerschbaumer Schlössl—to learn how it got its name and what “The Cursed Cherry Pit” had to do with it, read the Danube legend of the same name.
