Where the Danube flows backwards!

The landing stage is located in the middle of an excellent tourist infrastructure with a hotel, restaurant, boat harbor and hiking and cycling trails. The upper Danube valley between Passau and Aschach is one of the most beautiful and pristine stretches of the Danube. The "Schlögener Blick" viewpoint offers an impressive view of the famous Schlögener Schlinge - where the Danube makes a 180-degree turn and appears to flow backwards. The picturesque banks of the Danube can be explored particularly well on the "Donauschlinge nature trail".

The entire Danube Limes with its archaeological excavation sites, including the late antique Roman fort and the Schlögen Roman baths, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021.
At the Römerbad Schlögen, you can learn about Roman bathing culture 1800 years ago and immerse yourself in a time when Roman soldiers monitored the river from here. Next to the building, there is a Roman playground for children at the leisure facility. Schlögen Fort, once part of the Roman border fortifications along the Danube, is one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in Upper Austria and underlines the historical importance of the region as the borderline of the Roman Empire.

The Danube Limes World Heritage Tour from Passau to Schlögen and back is a popular cycle tour that combines scenic highlights and Roman cultural treasures. With the help of augmented reality, the digital tour guide Severinus of Noricum brings the UNESCO World Heritage Sites to life and accompanies visitors on an exciting journey back in time to Roman times. History comes alive and can be experienced.
