Untergriesbach

Untergriesbach, Bayern, Deutschland
In the south-eastern area of the Bavarian Forest, 20 km east of Passau, at the point where the Danube forms the border of the province, the historical market town of Untergriesbach stands high above the river valley at an altitude of 600 m, in the midst of what was originally farming country. Owing to its position, it also used to be known as “Griesbach on the high market”. Untergriesbach, a pearl of the Danube embedded in the Passauer Land area, is situated on the mountain ridge of the unique Bavarian-Austrian Danube Valley between Passau and Jochenstein. This holiday region, with the Donauleiten nature reserve, is particularly attractive: An impressive River Danube with an unspoilt cultural landscape shapes this cosy Bavarian holiday area, with many recreational opportunities and places of interest for a relaxing and exciting holiday stay. In the midst of waters, forests and meadows lies the former prince bishop’s market town of Untergriesbach, as well as the historical border village of Gottsdorf, both officially accredited health resorts. Right next door, the famous Mühlviertel and Innviertel areas of Upper Austria beckon you to visit their many attractions. It’s certainly well worth spending a holiday in this fascinating border triangle between Bavaria, Austria and Southern Bohemia.
