Indie/Alternative at the Posthof in Linz.

**Eternity Again |** “At some point, playing alone just wasn’t fun anymore.” What Barbora Cihak started as a bedroom project in Prague has, since that realization, become a four-piece band. The singer-songwriter caught the public’s attention at age 16 through radio contests, opened for Orla Gartland and Francis of Delirium, and later performed alongside Alex G. Toward the end of high school, she recruited her classmate Erik Petrina to play guitar, and they were joined by Vojtěch Kouřil on bass and Miki Papež on drums. Since then, Eternity Again has been touring the Czech Republic and Europe, including as the opening act for They Are Gutting a Body of Water and Stella Rose Gahan.

At first, the lineup was just a live version of her solo tracks. Then the dynamic shifted. “I had demos ready for another album, and suddenly it made sense to record it with the band,” says Cihak. The result is \*Prophecy\*, released in August 2025 and premiered at the MeetFactory: 13 tracks made up of countless layers, in which children’s toys, passing cars, sighs, and subtle scratching sounds emerge among the instruments. The influences range from the Cocteau Twins and Sonic Youth to the brooding romanticism of Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine.

The most interesting aspect is the dynamics. A synthesizer that makes a subtle appearance. A guitar that emerges from the fog for a few measures. Drums that are allowed to remain minimalist. Everything serves the atmosphere; nothing stands alone. It can’t be pinned down to a single genre, and the band doesn’t want it to be: “I’ve never thought in terms of genres. I do what makes sense to me,” says Cihak.

Right now, the focus is on concerts; a tour of the UK is in the works, and demos for the second album are being recorded at the same time. If you like shoegaze without getting lost in nostalgia, this is the place for you.

**Oh Non | A** woman leads a caiman on a leash through Paris. The animal is spoiled, moody, and at one point mistakes its owner’s leg for dinner. That’s what the video for the single “Caïman” looks like, and that’s pretty much how the rest of it works, too.

OH NON is a five-piece band: Diane sings, Téo plays bass and synthesizer, Ulysse plays drums, Rory plays guitar, and Damien plays saxophone, guitar, and setar. It all started as a duo between Diane and Téo, born out of a shared love for Boris Vian, Claude Nougaro, and Brigitte Fontaine. Since 2022, they’ve been playing as a quintet, starting out in the basements and clubs of Paris: La Miroiterie, La Boule Noire, La Maroquinerie, La Bellevilloise. Their influences range from the B-52’s, Sonic Youth, and Nina Hagen to Stereo Total and Les Rita Mitsouko. They sing exclusively in French, offering an ironic take on society, nightlife, and the challenges of getting along with one another.

Since 2023, the band has been hosting its own events, the “Spooky Nights,” at La Marbrerie and Point Éphémère: concerts, exhibitions, and performances, featuring, among others, the burlesque artist Masha Kils. An average of 400 people per night, usually sold out—most recently at the fourth edition in October.

Following their first EP from June 2024, their second EP, “Dans le salon,” is set to be released this year—nine tracks spanning surf rock, ska, psychedelic, synth-pop, jazz, and punk. The sound is complemented by piano, violin, and the setar, a Persian lute that Damien has been learning to play for the past two years. Two tracks take on a Middle Eastern flavor, a nod to the singer’s Lebanese heritage. The single “Cette fleur là” served as a preview in February, and the release party took place in April at Petit Bain.

**Daniel B |** Three acoustic guitars, one microphone, ten songs. Slovak singer-songwriter Daniel B recorded his debut exactly as he had planned to when he was 15. “I wanted to do everything myself, from writing to recording to mixing,” he says of “songs of youth & innocence.” The idea came from John Frusciante’s solo albums and was finally set in stone when he fell in love with Bon Iver’s “For Emma, Forever Ago.”

The album was released in January 2024 on the Slovak label Start Track and as a limited-edition cassette. It subsequently made the longlists for Album of the Year and Debut of the Year at the Radio\_Head Awards and appeared on the country’s folk music list. Ten tracks that tell of love and heartbreak (“wayside,” “unstained love”), of self-doubt and loneliness (“nobody,” “driving”), and, in “boatman calls,” of death. “I’ve never been as vulnerable as I am in these songs,” he says.

The arrangement is kept minimal. Three guitars—each track recorded with one or two of them—with a ukulele sneaking in on “driving.” Toward the end, the sound briefly expands to include bass, electric guitar, and a simple beat, before “last cigarette” strips everything back down again. The acoustic instruments are recorded almost entirely through a single microphone; Tomáš Karásek handled the mastering at the Gargle & Expel studio in Prague.

On stage, he stands alone with his guitar and chats with the audience between songs, without making a big show of it. In 2024, this approach took him to larger festivals for the first time, including Colours of Ostrava. He’s already working on his second album, this time with more space and more instruments. Until then, what a Slovak critic wrote about the first album still holds true: “Quiet, delicate songs that drift toward the sky like cigarette smoke” (Renát Khallo, hudba.sk).

**CousCous A Colazione |** A**two-year** hiatus, during which one question loomed large: what does it actually mean to feel alive? CousCous a Colazione, a quintet from Ravenna, took this break and has returned with nine tracks.

The project began in 2020 when the Italian-Mozambican singer Wilma Fatima Matsombe met producer Mattia Mennella. They were joined by Gioele Cangini (guitar), Antonio Casalino (drums and pads), and Giacomo Cortesi (bass and synthesizer). Their music is built in layers: synthesizer pads over deep basslines, with grooves blending dance, nu jazz, and R&B. In 2023, they released their first EP, “Luce,” and that same year, the band won the Encoder grant; prior to that, they had reached the finals of Arezzo Wave, Musica da Bere, and Zona d’Ombra. Since then, they’ve performed all over Italy, from the Barezzi Festival to Afrobrix, Bronson, and Covo.

“Alma” means “soul” in Portuguese, and the album, released on January 9 via Costello’s Records, unfolds in two acts: first, a conversation with oneself; then, the journey outward toward relationships that endure, transform, or fall apart. At the center is the title track with the mantra “aqui estou”—“here I am.” The sound is darker than on “Luce,” more nocturnal. “Lentamente” and “Sempre solə” feature syncopated rhythms and stark light-dark contrasts; “Arco-íris” lays down a steady bass drum beat, while “Traz e leva” and “Una vita a tre” have an almost cinematic feel. “Vent’anni” features London-based multi-instrumentalist David Mrakpor of Blue Lab Beats, and the track leans toward international nu jazz.

Live, it’s five people, plenty of electronics, and a voice that floats over the basslines without ever needing to raise its volume. “Sounds like nothing else currently coming out of Italy” (L’Isola che non c’era).

Current album: “Alma” (2026), Costello’s by Simone Castello
