"Change of scenery" - for the 100th birthday of Hildegard Knef

Letting the classics of the legendary Knef shine in a new light once again: Madeleine Joel & The Hildeguards have once again set themselves this task in the "Change of scenery" program.

Hildegard Knef would have celebrated her 100th birthday on December 28, 2025. With the release of the single Prosit Neujahr on December 28, 2024, exactly one year before Knef's birthday, Madeleine Joel rang in the anniversary year with her magnificent band The Hildeguards. Throughout the anniversary year, Madeleine Joel will be presenting her new concert program Tapetenwechsel in German-speaking countries.

Magnificently rearranged by American pianist Rob Bargad, the modern interpretations will be heard on the new album, which will be released in October this year. The recording of the first concert program All or Nothing, released by Hoanzl in 2022, became a bestseller and singer and saxophonist Madeleine Joel received overwhelmingly positive reviews in the media. At the many tribute concerts played since 2022, audiences have been able to hear for themselves the quality of the successful new interpretations by the top-class international jazz sextet.

The singer and saxophonist Madeleine Joel, blessed with a charismatic, raspy voice, impressively succeeds in retelling Knef's lyrics without imitating them. With his arrangements, Rob Bargad transforms the chansons into sophisticated and contemporary songs - jazz in all its facets, modern grooves and harmonies!
