Waldhauser Advent

"Art & Indulgence in the Advent Mühlviertel" and pre-Christmas contemplation can be found at this atmospheric Advent market in Waldhausen im Strudengau. 

In the unmistakable ambience of the monastery area, almost forgotten handicrafts are on display, such as the last beeswax puller in Austria, art turning, glass blowing, carpet weaving, ceramic painting, show smithy and much more. A special attraction is a show nativity scene with life-size carved figures by the extreme carver Ernst Adelsberger from Sonntagberg; plus live animals, sheep, donkeys and alpacas. Furthermore, a large nativity scene exhibition in the pavilion.

The sounds of the tower brass players of the Waldhausen Music Association accompany visitors on their tours of the Advent market with handmade Christmas decorations, candles, carvings, Christmas tree decorations, textile handicrafts, handmade soaps, wonderful ceramics, wooden toys, basketry and much more. Of course, the culinary delights from the Mühlviertel must not be neglected and in addition to punch and mulled wine there is mulled cider from the kettle and hot drinking chocolates from the house Zotter. 

As a musical highlight, J. S. Bach's "Christmas Oratorio IV-VI" will be performed in the baroque collegiate church on December 8th at the concert "Music for Christmas" at 4 p.m., with students from the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz.
