The PATH OF SALT leads from Altaussee and Bad Aussee via Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, Ebensee, Gmunden, Stadl-Paura, Lambach, Wels, Linz, Rainbach im Mühlkreis and Bujanov to Budweis. The historical significance of this route is reflected in the horse-drawn railway stations "Engelhof" in Gmunden, "Kerschbaum" and "Bujanov" on the Czech section of the line, which are considered to be the oldest railway stations still in existence in continental Europe. These railway stations were built to transport salt efficiently from the Kammergut to Bohemia.
