The hiking trail leads via a forest path to the Höllmühle, Dittmannsdorf, and then to the Rannabadesee. In the village of Oberkappel, it goes via the Kneipp path to the Konzinger Steg, which crosses the Rannastausee. The path continues over the Rannaleite back to Neustift and offers a beautiful panoramic view. The trail is well equipped with resting benches!**Tip:** Hiking trail equipped with various fitness devices around the Rannastausee to the Konzinger Steg. You can do something for your health at 6 Kneipp stations. Combined with the fitness trail, you can explore Lake Ranna over a length of up to 6.5 kilometres with Kneipp and fitness stations. Ideal for families, senior citizens and those seeking relaxation. A total of 16 stations along the 6.5 km nature trail around the Ranna reservoir are available for physical fitness. The exercises are simply described on a total of 32 boards and also illustrated with a figure. From cardiovascular training, strengthening, balance training, stretching and brain gym to the foot adventure world at the tenth station, there is plenty of training for young and old to keep you fit and healthy. In the middle of the two paths, you cross the so-called "Konzinger Steg" - a small wooden bridge from where you have a picturesque view of the lake and Oberkappel. Half-day hike in the area with an extremely idyllic section of the route along the Osterbach stream. It is particularly interesting for children along the stream as well as at the paddock at the Bachwirt. ![Naturschutzgebiet Rannatal](https://assets.tourdata.at/660x495/396590/FD08B47AB00AF8364B7F0BD30E529F36E03F235291F557B4611C3508DFACE09C/naturschutzgebiet-rannatal.jpg "Naturschutzgebiet Rannatal") Naturschutzgebiet Rannatal The Ranna Valley is a stretch of pristine wilderness with forested boulder fields, where mosses and lichens thrive on the barren soil. In addition to the deciduous block forest (composed of elms, ash trees, etc.), the spruce block forest exerts a particularly irresistible charm—especially in the spring, when the foliage of the blueberry bushes glows a bright green, and in the fall, when it turns a rusty brown. The boulder streams, which wind down the valley slopes in some places, represent a particularly unique natural phenomenon. These gneiss boulders, piled one on top of the other, are colonized by pioneer vegetation consisting of mosses and lichens. The bright yellow color of the rocks comes from a water-shy lichen species, the sulfur lichen (Chrysothrix chlorina). They are called “block streams” because these rock slides are still in motion and shift a few centimeters each year. No wonder—this natural gem, with its near-natural forests and rocky habitats, is an important refuge for a large number of rare and endangered species, such as the green lizard, which finds its last remaining habitat in Upper Austria outside the Danube Valley here! Less well-known animal and plant species are also found here, and the valley is a site of outstanding importance for lichen flora across Europe. The Ranna Valley is characterized by numerous boulder fields with meter-thick silicate rocks. The spaces between these rocks maintain consistently low temperatures, allowing certain insect species to survive here since the Ice Age. Where the cold air escapes, bogs have formed. The Ranna Valley nearly fell victim to the construction of a power plant, but was fortunately designated a nature reserve in 2002. In 2004, it was also designated a Natura 2000 site.
