**SPIRITUAL HIKING ON THE DONAUSTEIG:**

**Saint Wolfgang and Pupping**
Wolfgang was born in 924 in Pfullingen (Swabia). In 968 he was ordained priest by Saint Ulrich. His missionary zeal drove him in the following years as far as Hungary. In 972 he was appointed bishop of Regensburg. He distinguished himself above all as a courageous church reformer in his office. In 976 he fled to the Salzkammergut during an internal church uprising against him, lived about five years as a hermit at Falkenstein on Lake Wolfgang (this place has since become an important pilgrimage site) and founded a monastery in today’s St. Wolfgang before returning to Regensburg. On his last visitation trip he fell ill on the ship coming from Passau, went ashore in the district of Brandstatt, in Pupping, and died on 31.10.994 in the chapel of Saint Otmar there. He is patron saint of sculptors, woodworkers, charcoal burners, carpenters and boatmen.

**His message for today:** Courage – to leave old paths and take new paths, to risk something for one’s visions and to rebuild life.

**On the Wolfgang round I always ask myself the question of what I still want to (continue to) build in my life.**

**Directions:**
Starting from the Pupping municipal office, we head towards the glider airfield along a little-used road. Passing the glider airfield, we follow the signpost to Schaunburg into the forest.
After a short climb, we reach the beautiful Schaunburg castle ruin. In good weather you can enjoy a magnificent view all the way to the mountains. After a short break, we go to the parking lot, immediately turn left downhill to the Landl Chapel and hike along a quiet, relaxing forest path enjoying the view back to the Danube. From the Landl Chapel, we stroll slightly downhill to the left along a road to Seebach to the jumping hill facility. From there, we go along the vegetable fields via Gstötternau to Brandstatt to the ferry dock. Next, we continue along the vegetable fields of the Pupping farms (farmers) to Pupping. The end of our circular hiking trail is the monastery in Pupping. Here we enjoy with all our senses the beautifully designed monastery garden with the Jägerstätter Chapel. The generously designed herb spiral invites you to smell and taste.

**Tip:**
Beautiful circular route through the vegetable growing area of the Pupping farmers, with a challenging climb to the Schaunburg ruin, wide view over the Eferding basin, monastery church with monastery garden and meditation path, **Safety guidelines:**
In winter, the hiking trail is partially closed because safe footing is not possible due to the steep slope.**Equipment:**

Franciscan monastery Pupping

The monastery in Pupping was founded in 1477 by the Counts of Schaunberg, who also brought the Franciscans to Pupping. They also had a new church built in place of the old Wolfgangskirchlein, which was consecrated in 1490 by Auxiliary Bishop Albert of Passau.

Klinglmayr's inn - wine bar - wine shop

With great attention to detail, solid craftsmanship and high-quality materials, we have created a feel-good ambience for great evenings. In the fall of 2012, the outdated restaurant was completely renovated, but combined with familiar decorative elements. We were thus able to realize our goal of creating a completely refurbished room with contemporary comfort that still offers regular guests a familiar atmosphere. The cozy room with the small wine bar is a place of communication and offers the perfect stage for wine and culinary experiences. Enjoy the new wine bar with us!

Our new **wine bar** offers a cozy atmosphere for a fine lunch, an afternoon coffee or a nice evening with friends.

The **guest lounge** in the historic vaults is a place of original Upper Austrian tavern culture. Groups of up to 30 people can be accommodated here.

Landgasthof-Pension Dieplinger

Our cosy country inn on the Danube cycle path with attached guesthouse offers regional cuisine with vegetables and products from our own farm, among others, as well as fish from local waters and game from the surrounding forests.

Whether for lunch or dinner, for a snack or coffee and cake, at Landgasthof Dieplinger, the innkeeper in the Brandstatt, our guests can always look forward to hearty, freshly cooked home-style cooking and tempting pastries. Chef Paula Langmayr, who is one of the first trained cider sommeliers in Upper Austria, always takes care of the numerous delicacies and treats for the palate from our kitchen. Enjoy your time in our house or chestnut guest garden and look out over the beautiful Danube.
Daughter Andrea, as a trained tourism manager, looks after the well-being of our guests. We are also happy to offer one of our other specialities - the home-distilled, internationally award-winning noble brandies from our chef Karl Langmayr.

Situated in the Danube valley of the Eferding basin, our country inn with its chestnut garden, cycling station, motorboat moorings and children's playground invites you to take a holiday. We also make it possible for you to celebrate festivities in relaxing surroundings and to hold seminars and training courses.

This historic country inn, which was first mentioned in a document in 1635 as the "Wirt an der Brücke", has been in family ownership for more than 100 years.
Since 1986, we, Paula and Karl Langmayr, with the support of our daughter Andrea and our three sons Christian, Benedikt and Valentin, have been running the country inn with the associated farm with heart and passion. With attention to detail and charming hospitality, we have managed to make both culinary gourmets and regulars feel at home in the parental inn.

We cordially invite you to join us at Landgasthof Dieplinger and look forward to welcoming and hosting you.

**Steinige Behausungen…**

**From the monastery garden to gliding - discover Brandstatt and the surrounding area**

Thanks to its location on the Danube and the boat landing stage, the small village of Brandstatt offers a variety of ways to explore the region - whether on foot, by bike, by boat or even gliding from the local airfield. The Pupping monastery church with its natural Franciscan monastery garden and the St. Wolfgang chapel tell of a special history. A marina and nearby restaurants add to the charm of the boat landing stage on the Danube cycle path and invite you to linger.
