It is bordered by the streets Altstadt and Hahnengasse. The street was named after a medieval market square in 1960. In the High Middle Ages, this was the site of the market square, which was later built on. In addition to the Kremsmünsterer Haus, the square is characterised by the ensemble built around 1950 in the Heimatschutz style to replace the old town houses destroyed in the Second World War - including the Holy Trinity Chapel, which is today commemorated by a cobblestone outline. In 1990, the sculptor Günter Wolfsberger erected a jubilee fountain at the Alter Markt.
