The first closed ice cover on the Danube in the winter of 1963/64, caused by the construction of the Danube power station in Aschach/D., provided the friends of curling with an almost unrestricted area for curling. In 1970, the founding of an Austria-wide ice sports organisation according to international rules prompted seven men from Wesenufer (Jan Feiken - the actual initiator, Hugo Selle, Siegfried Selle, Josef Königseder, Anton Leidinger, Felix Schütz and Roman Gruber) to set a new course in local curling. They joined the ESV St. Aegidi in order to familiarise themselves with the new guidelines of the increasingly popular sport. In 1971, the curling section was added to the Wesenufer Union. From this point onwards, the section moved from the ice rink previously used in the courtyard of the Auer inn to the premises of the innkeeper Königseder behind the Baumgartner brewery. In 1973, the curling section broke away from the sports club for financial reasons and founded its own club, Eisschützenverein (ESV) Wesenufer, with 22 members and the 1st chairman Jan Feien, vice-chairman Siegfried Selle and treasurer Hugo Dieplinger. After just nine years, the club reached 60 members. A floodlight system was installed so that curling could also be enjoyed after work. Since then, annual club championships and open tournaments have been organised. On 3 August 1990, a new asphalt sports facility with a club building was opened. It was now possible to play curling in summer on five asphalt rinks. In 1998, the facility was renovated and reduced to four lanes. The area had to make way for the housing estate Wesenufer - Ost in 1999. A new location was found in the immediate vicinity of the sports ground.
