Pragstein Castle & Local Heritage Museum

Mauthausen, Oberösterreich, Österreich

At the Museum on Pragstein Castle visitors can take an exhilarating journey into the eventful history of the market town of Mauthausen.

The imposing building sprawls along the banks of the Danube and until 1860 had been on a rocky island surrounded by water. Neolithic excavations demonstrate a rather early settlement of the area. Shipping was of great importance for the market town, and therefore takes a major part of the exhibition.
