Around 1370 the building was consecrated to Saint Stephen. The church you see today is mainly of the second half of the 14th century but the foundations of an older church lie under the floor of the Nave and are probably those of the original building. The Presbytery, the left aisle and the vaults of the gallery are superb examples of Gothic architecture. The original nave was Gothic style as well. History records that some 250 years ago a substantial part of the building was destroyed by a fire. And as a result the Nave had to be completely rebuilt.
