On the first day of your hiking holiday on the Danube, let yourself be enchanted by the charm of Passau's old town during a stroll through the city. Hotel example: Hotel Passauer Wolf in Passau **Day 2 - From Passau to Engelhartszell approx. 16 km, ascent and descent each approx. 450 metres, walking time approx. 6 hours + boat trip** You start with a leisurely boat trip to Kasten for your first hiking tour on the Donausteig. There you join the hiking trail that leads you to Engelhartszell. Engelszell Abbey is famous for its beautiful rococo church. Hotel example: Hotel Zum Goldenen Schiff in Engelhartszell **Day 3 - From Engelhartszell to Niederranna/Wesenufer approx. 10 km, ascent and descent each approx. 650 hm, walking time approx. 5 hours** You reach the northern bank of the Danube again by ferry. You hike steeply up the "Donauleiten". At the Penzenstein, a marvellous view of the valley opens up. The hiking tour in Upper Austria leads over gentle hills to the Rannariedl ruins. You reach Wesenufer along the hiking route on the banks of the Danube. Hotel example: Gasthof Draxler in Niederranna **Day 4 - From Niederranna/Wesenufer to Schlögen approx. 13 km, ascent and descent each approx. 700 hm, walking time approx. 6 hours** Today you hike up to Marsbach Castle. The magnificent hilly landscape of the Mühlviertel accompanies you on your hiking holiday on the Donausteig trail right into the Schlögener Schlinge. The numerous ruins are reminiscent of the wild times of medieval robber baronage on the Danube. From the Heichenbach ruins, you can already see your stage destination in Schlögen. Hotel example: Hotel Donauschlinge in Schlögen **Day 5 - From Schlögen to Aschach approx. 19 km, ascent and descent approx. 600 m, walking time approx. 6.5 hours** The natural spectacle of a river meander is worth marvelling at on a hiking holiday in Austria: the Schlögener Schlinge. Take your time on the steep ascent along the Donausteig to Schlögener Blick. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Danube loop. You will hike through the beautiful southern Mühlviertel with views of Wilhering Abbey and Ottensheim.
