Off to the bread mission

In the Paneum- Wunderkammer des Brotes, pioneering architecture meets millennia-old stories about bread, told by the impressive pieces in the backaldrin collection. A wide variety of tour formats have been developed for pupils of all ages.

Bread mission (for pupils aged 6 to 10):
In the bread mission through the millennia, 9,000 years of contemporary history are scrutinised together with the pupils. The children follow clues, solve puzzles and uncover a well-kept secret together. The educational programme is based on discussion and action. We leave room for the children's own questions and encourage them to look closely, develop their own research potential, think for themselves and thus discover the different stories of bread

Field foxes (for pupils aged 6 to 10)
The "field foxes", the schoolchildren, learn all about the journey of the grain from the field to the bread during a 75-minute guided tour. They learn about the importance of craftsmanship and the guilds. And they experience several hands-on stations, including how to distinguish between different types of grain and grind them into flour using their own physical strength.

Travelling back in time, always following the bread (for pupils aged 11 to 14):
On this interactive tour, the children experience the history of grain cultivation and its processing through to the development of the bakery trade and the organisation of the guilds. Using selected exhibits, we look from the past to the present. In small groups, the pupils solve tricky tasks, compete against each other and learn about the influence of bread in religion, society, development, art and culture in a fun way.
Particular attention is paid to the independent development of selected key topics.

Schau hi - greif zua (hands-on workshop for pupils aged 11 to 14)
In the "Schau hi - Greif zua" workshop specially designed for this age group, pupils can experience hands-on how work is done in the Paneum. They repair, determine and document. By grasping - understand.
The workshop is offered every Tuesday to Friday (except public holidays) at 10.30, 13.00 and 14.30 by appointment.
Duration: approx. 75 minutes
Group size 15 to 30 children

Art & Culture (for secondary level 2 - pupils aged 15 and over):
Secondary school pupils are also very welcome in the Paneum. Over a thousand art and cultural artefacts from 9,000 years of bread-related history invite you to marvel and listen. Egyptian grain mummies, Peruvian totem poles or a painting of gingerbread by Roy Lichtenstein - each object tells its own personal story about this precious foodstuff and shows its significance in different cultures.

Group size: 15 to 55 young people

On request and only bookable with advance notice.
One free place for an accompanying person is included for every 21 pupils.

Opening hours: open all year round from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm; closed on Sundays, Mondays and public holidays
