Rastplatz Neuhof-Holzpoint

Naarn im Machlande, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Neuhof-Holzpoint rest area near Naarn im Machlande.
Coveted landscape...
The basin landscape of the Machland was formed by glacial and recent deposits of the Danube and its tributaries. The Machland is one of the oldest settlement areas in Austria. However, the former wetland landscape originally allowed only little agricultural use. Drainage attempts began as early as the middle of the 18th century. The tributary rivers (e.g. Naarn) were canalised and drainage ditches were constructed. The favourable climate and location of the Machland made efficient land use possible. Many near-natural habitats have been lost. This makes it all the more important to protect and develop the remaining ones, such as the Entenlacke. The Natura 2000 area Machland Nord is intended to protect the preservation of these special areas (information: www.entenlacke.com, Naturinfozentrum Saxen).

The inhabitants around Naarn are not superstitious, but if you ask them about the Fuchtlmandl, they tell you about creatures that provide good service to people as "shining boggarts" - as long as you don't annoy them...
