description: Woollen sacks…Geologically seen the Aist-Naarn-Kuppenland, in which we are located, belongs to the Bohemian Massif and consists mainly of granite and gneisses, the substance of the mountain region. Especially typical for this region are rock formations, which are the result of weathering processes. They can be found often on crests, ridges and peaks. These rocks are a product of spheroidal weathering. This process causes the rounding of rocks by the erosion of the covering materials. They are dominating elements in landscapes and an important habitat for lichen and moss. During the spheroidal weathering aggressive chemical fluids pervade into the stone and cause the destruction of the stone along the edges and corners. The result are rounded off stone bricks, which are still covered by weathering material. If this material is eroded, they reveal their bizarre forms, reminding of woollen sacks. Thus, in German this weathering process is called “Wollsackverwitterung” (woollen-sack weathering). The mysterious “Mondstein” has an interesting legend – feel the magic of the rock.

 Woollen sacks…
Geologically seen the Aist-Naarn-Kuppenland, in which we are located, belongs to the Bohemian Massif and consists mainly of granite and gneisses, the substance of the mountain region.
