Rastplatz Dorf

Hartkirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Stony habitats...
Rock formations are particularly valuable and typical elements in the Danube valley. With their rocky lawns and crevice vegetation, they characterise the natural environment and are aesthetically pleasing. But that's not all: they are an important habitat for many endangered animal and plant species. Like boulder heaps, exposed rock heads have a unique climate, which is reflected in the high diversity of fauna and flora. The insects, reptiles, amphibians and lichens found here are particularly noteworthy. The many castles and ruins in the Danube Valley fulfil a similar function, as although they were built by man, they often provide suitable habitats.

A very special dwarf lives in the forests of the Danube valley - the Danube legend "Vom Haselmandl" (The hazel dwarf) reveals what happens when he is in a bad mood.
